PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Campbellsville stumbled out of the gate this morning, shooting 13 over par as a team on the first two holes, and sits middle of the pack after Day 1 of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament at the Hombre Golf Club.

 

The last two holes were a bit unkind too for the Lady Tigers. As a team, CU was nine over on 17 and 18. The patchwork round for the team produced a 332 total, good for fifth place in the nine-team field.

 

"We would love to shoot better than these sophomores' low, which I believe is 305," said coach Kim Goodin. "I'm positive we can.

 

"Once again we had course management issues for which I take responsibility. It's a fine line to walk … showing trust in their shot making ability and knowing myself it will take the perfect shot."

 

The Lady Tigers are 20 shots out of fourth place, trailing Shorter University 332-312. CU is 22 shots better than sixth place Bethel (Ind.) University.

 

Ashley Goodin shot 81 (42-39) to lead the Lady Tigers and put her in a tie for 15^th place. Her round included 10 pars, seven bogeys and a double.

 

Anna Marie Hyatt was working on a top 10 finish after the first day until suffering a double and a triple to complete her opening round. She was not exempt from early troubles either. The Lawrenceburg, Ky. sophomore bogeyed the first two holes before carding a birdie on the par 3 third. Hyatt would go on to shoot 83 (41-43) and a tie for 20^th place.

 

Last year's NCCAA team medalist, Cassidy Scantland, who has been fighting injuries all fall, was six over par after two holes, and went on to card an 84 (42-42). Scantland had two of the team's five birdies in her round.

 

Olivia Parrott improved four shots on her back nine to tie Scantland with an 84 (44-40). She collected two birdies as well. Scantland and Parrott are tied for 21^st place.

 

Rachel Carter went five over on the final three holes in shooting an 89 (44-45). Carter is tied for 30^th in the 45-player field.

 

Things are pretty bunched at the top of the team leader board with only five shots separating the top four teams. Dallas Baptist leads Lee University by two and Oklahoma Christian and Shorter University by four and five shots, respectively.

 

Oklahoma Christian's Cat Odgers is the first-round medalist with a one-under 71. Lee and Shorter both had three players in the top 10.

 

Day 2 tee times for the Lady Tigers begin at 12:20 thru 1:00 ET.
