ST. CATHARINE, Ky. — Campbellsville played a close first set, but errors proved costly in sets two and three as the Lady Tigers lost to St. Catharine tonight, 26-24, 25-17 and 25-18.
The loss quite possibly sets up a rematch of the Lady Tigers (6-26. 4-8 MSC) and the Patriots (26-9, 9-3 MSC) in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament that CU will host on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15 in the Powell Athletic Center.
Â
The Lady Tigers rallied from a five-point deficit (13-8) in the first set, eventually tying SCC at 17-all. CU led briefly at 19-17 and 21-19 before two straight errors allowed St. Catharine to tie the match at 22-22. With the Lady Tigers leading 24-23, Shauna Stone picked up a kill for the tie and her teammates blocked Campbellsville at the net before winning set point at 26-24.
Â
Four consecutive attack errors in the middle of set two allowed the Patriots to gain separation and a 14-8 lead. CU never got closer than that spread the rest of the way.
Â
Leading 9-6 in the third, CU sandwiched a couple of attack errors around an ace by SCC's Casey Stone and the Patriots took seven of the next 10 points and won 25-18 when Campbellsville made three errors in the match's final four points.
Â
Jade Nelson led CU with seven kills on a .462 hitting percentage, followed by six from Jana Kortas (.263). Brianna Harman and Rachel DeCoursey had five kils each.
Â
Marcella Compeau, Harman and DeCoursey had 19, 10 and seven digs, respectively. Jackie Schwieger had 21 assists.
Â
Campbellsville stays on the road with the Lady Tigers traveling to No. 10 Lindsey Wilson for an 8 p.m. match Thursday Oct. 28. Junior varsity will start at 6:00.
