PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – A torrential rain blew in over The Hombre Golf Club today and helped water down a couple of promising rounds on the final day of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament.
Campbellsville shot its worst team score of the three-day event, but held on to its fifth place finish in the nine-team field. The Lady Tigers carded a 334 (946) for the tournament, 48 shots better than their nearest competitor — Bethel (Ind.) University.
"We did move up three spots this year and if we continue on this pace of improvement, we can win it by the time my upperclassmen are seniors," said coach
Kim Goodin. "That is our goal. Since our spring season is so important, I want us look forward and not dwell on the past."
Rachel Carter was six shots better than her second-day 89, penciling in an 83 that tied her with
Cassidy Scantland and
Anna Marie Hyatt for team low round.
Carter had nines of 39-44, playing the final three holes even par. The freshman from Scottsville, Ky. finished in 28
th place.
Scantland, a sophomore from Greensburg, Ky., who moved into a tie for 12
th place after her 77 yesterday, saw a really good round turn on the back side. Scantland was one under after nine, but that's when the shower halted play for about 30 minutes. She shot 48 on the back with a triple and two quadruple bogeys. She finished in 17
th place.
Hyatt's 83 (39-44) was tempered with a four-over-par, three-hole start on the back and a round-ending triple on 18. The sophomore from Lawrenceburg, Ky. shot a 245 total, good for 18
th place.
Columbia, Ky. sophomore
Ashley Goodin shot 85 (45-40) to finish in 20
th place.
Oliva Parrott rebounded to shoot 88 (41-47) on Day 3 and 31
st place overall.
Shorter rallied from three shots back after two rounds to clip Dallas Baptist 936 to 940.
Dallas' Erin Barrington was medalist by beating Oklahoma Christian's Anna Arrese Cortadellas 221 (74-73-74) to 222 (75-75-72).
