Women's soccer runs win streak to six, beats Asbury 4-1

WILMORE, Ky. — Mhari Fyfe scored three goals and Campbellsville ran its win streak to six matches as the Lady Tigers snatched a 4-1 win tonight over Asbury University.

"It would have been nice to get a shoutout, but we got the win and took care of business in the second half," said coach Thom Jones.

The Lady Tigers (11-6, 4-2 MSC) have outscored opponents 30-1 over their last six matches and Fyfe's big night puts her one goal shy (17) of a school single-season record (18), set last season by Jessica Ralph. Fyfe has 31 goals in just her second season.

Fyfe collected her first of three goals in the 13th minute when she won a one-on-one encounter with Asbury keeper Brooke Perkins.

CU was keeping the ball in its attack zone most of the first half until Mia Wiersema ticked the ball around CU keeper Amanda Howard and Lizzie Hoffa found an open goal in the 42nd minute to tie the match at 1-all at intermission.

Howard had three saves, giving her 89 for the season.

Devon Burnside put the Lady Tigers up to stay in the 55th minute when she collected a corner kick that was pin-balled around for her sixth score of the season.

Fyfe added a score in the 70th minute when she raced past everyone, and her final goal came on Rachel Veatch's fifth assist of the season, a cross in the 84th-minute mark.

Campbellsville won the shots stat 14-7 and held an 11-4 edge in shots on goal.

The Lady Tigers play their last regular season match on Saturday at 1:00 when they travel to conference foe University of the Cumberlands.
