COLUMBIA, Ky. – Similar to the first meeting this month, Lady Tiger Volleyball took the first set, but No. 10 Lindsey Wilson College rallied back to take the match in four sets Thursday night.
Campbellsville University won the first set 25-23 to start the night, taking advantage of 11 LWC errors which resulted in points. The Blue Raiders took the next three sets 25-12, 25-18 and 25-11.
While Campbellsville and LWC traded point for point in the first set, but the Blue Raiders built a 14-6 lead to start the second set. The eight-point margin grew to 12 points, 20-8, as LWC pulled away to even the match. LWC also took an eight-point lead, 15-7, in the second set but Campbellsville worked it to five points, 23-18, before a service error and attack error decided the set.
CU led 6-5 in the fourth set, but the Blue Raiders used a 17-2 run to pull away. Â
The Lady Tigers were held to only 29 kills in the match, led by seven kills from both Jana Kortas and Aleksandra Popovic. Rachel DeCoursey had five kills. Jackie Schwieger had 17 assists for CU.
On the other side of the net, Nadelina Nesheva and Yennifer Ramirez led Lindsey Wilson with 16 and 15 kills, respectively, accounting for 31 of the Blue Raiders' 57 kills in the match. Makenzie Montano had 37 assists.
Marcella Compeau led CU and all players with 18 digs on defense, while DeCoursey added 10 digs for CU.
Earlier in the evening, LWC also defeated Campbellsville in two sets (25-20, 25-12) of junior varsity action.
Campbellsville (6-27, 4-9 MSC) is currently in sixth place in the Mid-South Conference with one conference match remaining on Nov. 6 at Cumberland University (Tenn.). The Lady Tigers will wrap up their regular season home schedule with non-conference matches Saturday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. against Indiana University East and will host Indiana University Southeast for Senior Night on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
