BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Campbellsville's women sit in fourth place after round one of the seven-team field at the Southern Shootout at Highland Park Golf Course with a 330 team total.
Ashley Goodin and
Anna Marie Hyatt shot 82's to lead the Lady Tigers while
Mikayla Smith and
Olivia Parrott completed their initial 18 holes with 83's.
"The course wasn't playing terribly hard," said coach
Kim Goodin, "but it was tight and required some thinking. Our course management isn't where it needs to be right now."
CU was missing its No. 2 golfer,
Rachel Carter, who had to pull out of the competition with a pulled muscle in her back. Lady Tiger No. 1,
Cassidy Scantland, did not make the trip because of injury.
"We have no excuses," said Goodin. "You still have to execute the shots."
The University the Cumberlands (289) leads the tournament by six strokes over Lee University (295), the team CU needs to beat for the automatic bid to the NCCAA National Tournament to be held in Panama City, Fla. later this month.
Campbellsville trails third place Jackson State by nine strokes, but leads Brenau University by eight, Birmingham Southern (350) and Centenary College (356).
Centenary College's Jamie Wright fired a 68 to lead Lee University's Madison Alexander by one stroke and Cumberland's Candice Lindeque by two.
