Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- An own goal with 43 seconds remaining handed Campbellsville University an upset loss Wednesday to St. Catharine College, 2-1, at Finley Stadium and Citizens Bank Field. The loss is the Tigers' first to the Patriots, who now sit tied for second place in the Mid-South Conference standings.
Campbellsville wasted little time to find the back of the net in its first game in more than a week. Marcelo Petit scored off a Ryan Foster assist in the third minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.Â
CU had seven other shots in the first half, two on goal, but could not extend its lead before a 1-0 halftime break.
In the second half, Campbellsville once again out-shot the Patriots, 8-4, but had only one shot on target. St. Catharine collected its first shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but it was saved by CU keeper Josh Hollis.Â
Ashley Woods delivered the equalizer in the 73rd minute for his ninth goal of the season on a cross by Max Bristow.Â
Both teams remained gridlocked into the final minute, when CU defender Adam Linderholm attempted to pass the ball out of the backline. The ball shot off Linderholm's foot and past Hollis for the own goal. Campbellsville quickly subbed its defenders for offensive players, but were unable to get a good shot off in the final 40 seconds of play.Â
Hollis (3-4) had one save in the loss, while St. Catharine starter CJ Powell (7-3) had three.
The loss is the Tigers' first at home this season after shutting out opponents 19-0 in their previous four home games.Â
Campbellsville (7-5, 2-2 MSC) will travel to the University of Pikeville for a Mid-South Conference game Saturday at 4 p.m., looking to end a three-game road losing skid. CU will return home Monday, Oct. 13 to host Tennessee Temple University at Finley Stadium and Citizens Bank Field. Kickoff is 6 p.m.Â
