Tiger soccer closes regular season with 10th shutout

Box Score

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – It took nearly 80 minutes, but Campbellsville University was able to close the regular season with a 1-0 victory at University of the Cumberlands on Saturday.

The Tigers collected 19 total shots, including nine on goal, while holding the Patriots to only nine shots on their Senior Day. However, it wasn't until 79:54 had passed before CU senior Gustav Carlsson netted the lone goal of the game on his only shot.

Freshman goalkeeper Josh Hollis had six saves in the shutout, the Tigers' 10th shutout of the season and third straight.

Campbellsville (12-5, 5-2 MSC) close the regular season tied for second in the Mid-South Conference with Cumberland University and St. Catharine College. However, due to tiebreakers, Campbellsville will enter next week's MSC Tournament quarterfinals as the No. 4 seed.

Cumberland broke the tie by allowing the fewest goals in MSC play among the three teams, and then the tiebreakers start over, giving St. Catharine the No. 3 seed after beating Campbellsville 2-1 earlier in the year.

The Tigers will host the No. 5 seed, either Cumberlands or Georgetown College, in the MSC Quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. EST. The MSC semifinals and championship will also be played at Campbellsville University's Finley Stadium and Citizens Bank Field on Nov. 13-14.
