CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A dozen aces and a trio of players with double-digit kills helped Campbellsville University take a four-set win over Indiana University East on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers, playing their only morning home match of the season, were forced to battle closely in the first set, winning 26-24 with back-to-back kills by Jade Nelson and Brianna Harman to end the set. CU had five of its 12 aces in the first set, led by two from Brooklyn Bowling.
Campbellsville took a 5-1 lead in the second set and went on to win the set, 25-17, with the help of five kills by Jana Kortas, who finished with a match-high 12 kills for CU. IU East bounced back in the third set, reversing a 14-12 deficit into a 17-15 lead. The Lady Tigers managed to pull within a point, 24-23 on a Red Wolves' attack error but Morgan Dobbs put the set away, 25-23.
CU once again took a 5-1 lead to start the fourth set and benefitted from five kills from each Nelson and Harman. Both finished with 10 kills each to join Kortas in double figures.
Marcella Compeau led CU's defense with 23 digs, while Harman collected 11 for a double-double. Jackie Schweiger also had a double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs. Rachel DeCoursey narrowly missed a double-double, collecting eight kills and 10 digs.
Mallory Livingston led IUE with 10 kills and 12 digs. Katrina Detwiler also had 12 digs, while Libero Madison Yoder had 20.
Campbellsville (7-27) will close out its regular season home schedule on Tuesday, hosting Indiana University Southeast for Senior Night at 7 p.m. EST.
