Lady Tigers down St. Catharine, 94-62, to open MSC play

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Lady Tiger Basketball opened its defense of the Mid-South Conference title with a 94-62 win Thursday night over St. Catharine College. Fifth-ranked Campbellsville received offense from four players in double-figures to improve to 6-0 on the season.

St. Catharine (2-2, 0-1 MSC) kept the game close early, pulling within a point, 6-5, but the Lady Tigers eventually built an 11-3 run midway through the first half to create separation. Madison Clements led the run with five of her game-leading 14 points in the game. The other six was provided by three points each from posts Chelsea Craig and Kristen Jacob.
 

The Patriots chipped the score back down to two possessions, 32-28, but Campbellsville closed the first half with a 10-5 run, including four straight points by Jacob, who finished with eight points and game-high eight rebounds. Campbellsville carried a 42-33 lead into the locker room.

The Lady Tigers worked their lead to 20 points, 59-39, on a pair of free throws by Daizah Kimberland as part of a 15-6 run in the opening five minutes of the second half. Kimberland also capped a 10-0 run, moments later, which put Campbellsville up 28, 75-47. However, it was sophomore Macie Spence who came off the bench to push CU past a 30-point margin.

Spence hit a 3 from the top of the key, off a Lindey Young assist, which brought fans out of their seats with 5:14 to play. She followed with a basket on the next trip down to give CU a 31-point lead, 83-52, and later made it 87-52. Spence scored seven of her 11 points in a 1:33 time span to finish one point shy of her career-high.

Kimberland followed Clement's offensive lead with 13 points, while LeeAnn Grider also scored 11.

The Lady Tigers dished out 21 assists, including five each by Clements and Abby Miller, and three each by Jacob and Grider.

Campbelsville held St. Catharine to 31 percent shooting in the second half, including 22.2 percent behind the arc. Heather Sandlin and Kayla Wilson each scored 12 to lead SCC.

Campbellsville (6-0, 1-0 MSC) will take a week off from competition before hosting University of the Cumberlands for a MSC battle on Thursday, Nov. 20. Tipoff is 6 p.m. EST.
