Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville men's soccer saw its hopes of knocking off the No. 4 team in the nation go down the drain after two late goals by Lindsey Wilson College. The Blue Raiders scored twice in the final four minutes to seal the come-from-behind victory to advance to the Mid-South Conference Championship game Saturday.
Lindsey Wilson's Tom Moody and Yazeed Davis turned the tides for Campbellsville, scoring twice within two minutes of each other. Moody capitalized on a penalty kick to tie the match at two, after there was a handball by a CU defender inside the box. Davis gave the Blue Raiders the lead after a scramble inside the box, beating CU goalkeeper
Josh Hollis.
But before the fireworks for the Blue Raiders, Campbellsville came out hitting on all cylinders in the first half with two early scores. In the 11
th minute,
Ryan Foster picked up a
Roraigh Yearwood missed shot and found the back of the net.
Yearwood extended the Tigers' lead 15 minutes later, finding the net off a pass from
Alex Ryan.
But MSC No. 1 seed Lindsey Wilson would not stay down long. The Blue Raiders answered two minutes later to cut the deficit in half. Anthony Tshimpi beat
Josh Hollis in the CU goal in the 28
th minute to make the score, 2-1. The score remained unchanged for nearly 60 minutes.
The Blue Raiders kept pushing forward and the pressure stayed on Hollis and the CU defense. Hollis picked up two major saves to keep LWC from tying the match. He finished the first stanza with four saves compared to two by Lindsey Wilson's Dalyan Hawes.
Lindsey Wilson scored three unanswered goals to stamp its ticket into the MSC Championship game. The Blue Raiders will play the winner of No. 3 seed St. Catharine College on Friday at 5:30 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium.
Campbellsville will now begin its National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) postseason play. The Tigers will travel to Clintoon, Miss., Nov. 21 to play host school Mississippi College in the Mid-East Regional semifinals. Lee University and Bluefield College will meet in the other semifinal.
