Lady Tigers win Senior Night over IUSE, 3-1

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Lady Tiger Volleyball gave its seniors a home sendoff Tuesday night, beating Indiana University Southeast in four sets, 22-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-21.

Jana Kortas hammered out 21 kills to help lead Campbellsville in its final home regular season match, but three seniors also shined in the win. Aleksandra Popovic had a CU career-high 12 kills and six blocks in her Senior Night match and Jade Nelson also had a dozen kills. Senior setter Jackie Schweiger had 45 assists, the most she's had at home this season.

IUSE took the first set, 25-22, after fighting back from a 14-12 deficit. The Grenadiers used a five-point run to help take the lead, 19-16.

CU fell behind 4-1 to start the second set and trailed by six, 20-14. Popovic had back-to-back kills and a block to score three straight points to pull within three, 21-18. Moments later, Nelson and Kortas alternated kills for four straight points to take the lead, 24-23. After Nelson set up set point, 25-24, CU benefitted from an attack error to even the match with a 26-24 second-set win.

The Lady Tigers' momentum carried over into the third set, starting out with a 7-2 lead. The closest IUSE got was four points, 18-14, before CU pulled away for a 25-17 win.

Marcella Compeau served back-to-back aces in the second set to start a five-point run to go up 11-3. However, Stephanie Bradshaw also helped serve six straight points to pull Indiana Southeast within a point, 12-11. Fischer had three consecutive kills in the run. The Grenadiers were unable to take the lead, as CU went on to win the set, 25-21, on a kill by Popovic, assisted by Krista Mihelsone.

Kelsey Willinger and Michala Beasley led IUSE with 10 kills each, while Hannah Barker had nine.

Defensively, Compeau led CU with 28 digs, followed by 13 from both Schweiger and DeCoursey. DeCoursey also had four assisted blocks.

Prior to the game, Schwieger, Mihelsone, Popovic and Nelson were honored during a Senior Night recognition. Joining them were junior varsity seniors Mizuki Ikeda of Japan and Dawn Duda of Rineyville, Ky.

Campbellsville (8-27, 4-9 MSC) will close its regular season on Thursday, Nov. 6 with a 7 p.m. EST match at Cumberland University. CU will return home Friday, Nov. 14 as host of the Mid-South Conference Tournament in Powell Athletic Center.
