Lady Tigers use defense to subdue Carroll, 46-40

Box Score

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — There are a lot of pretty things in Nevada, but Lady Tiger Basketball's 46-40 win over Carroll College today at Durango High School is not one of them.

Campbellsville, playing in the Las Vegas Frontier Shootout for the first time, battled hard enough on defense to overcome its lowest point output of the year and a 13-1 record.

"We wanted to get it inside, and we did," said Coach Ginger Colvin. "Once we got it there we couldn't get a lot done and we didn't get to the line."

Lindsey Burd came in early in the first half and delivered 11 points to help her team scoot out to a 26-22 intermission lead. She ended up leading all scorers with 16 points and five rebounds.

It was Burd's shot with time running out on the shot clock with 4:30 left in the game that gave CU a 41-36 lead. Then she made a steal off a missed shot that led to Caroline Owen's third 3, putting the Lady Tigers up 44-36.

Campbellsville made it interesting with under a minute to play, missing the front ends of two bonus opportunities.

"I told the kids that this trip is a prep for the National Tournament. There are three ranked teams here and the other two are good enough to be there."

CU hit 37 percent for the game, but held Carroll to 26 percent shooting and 5-for-28 from 3.

"They shoot a ton of 3s and they did tonight, but we pressured them on the perimeter and got the job done on the defensive end," continued Colvin. "Graham's 3 was big and all of Caroline's were."

Owen had seven rebounds to go along with her nine points.

Cassidy Hashley led Carroll with 13 points and led everybody with nine boards.

The Lady Tigers are right back on the court tomorrow (Dec. 19) with a game against No. 4 Westminster. Tip is 5:30 PT/8:30 ET.
