Lady Tigers fall for first time this season, 68-66

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. – It took an and-one layup with 0.6 seconds left in the game for 19th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College to hang the first loss of the season on Campbellsville University's Lady Tigers, 68-66.

Campbellsville (10-1, 3-1 MSC) went the last 3:27 without scoring a field goal, while the Blue Raiders (7-2, 1-2 MSC) scored the final seven points of the game.

CU held a narrow, 66-65, lead with 21 seconds left, but a missed shot was ruled out of bounds in favor of Lindsey Wilson with seven seconds to play. Kayla Richardson got a layup and foul in the final second to secure the win.

"We didn't handle the last few minutes very well, but it wasn't because of a lack of effort," said CU Head Coach Ginger Colvin. "Give Lindsey Wilson tons of credit. They needed this win and they jumped out and got it."

The Blue Raiders took a 7-2 lead to start the game, but Campbellsville regained the lead at 8-7. The Lady Tigers were unable to get a lead bigger than 32-28 in the first half.

"They're a very athletic team. We weren't prepared for that athleticism," said Colvin. "We had talked about it, but until you play against it, it's a big difference."

The Lady Tigers and Blue Raiders combined for 24 turnovers in the first half.

"It was back and forth," said Colvin, "a lot of turnovers, but I think that's what both teams wanted. It was a flip-flop of both halves as far as that (turnovers) goes."

CU led at the half 32-31, and the two teams traded baskets for the first few minutes of the second half, but LeAnn Grider picked up a steal and hit Caroline Owen on the left wing for her second consecutive 3-pointer. This forced Lindsey Wilson coach John Wethington to call timeout, trailing 44-35.

Following the timeout, LWC came out hitting again. After the Lady Tiger lead was decreased to two points, 44-42, Lexxus Graham hit a 3 off an assist from Madison Clements to end a four minute, 16 second scoreless drought.

Senior post player
Chelsea Craig led the way for CU and tied her career high with 16 points. She was one rebound short of her first career double-double. Madison Clements and Caroline Owen both had 10 points apiece.

Lindsey Wilson was led in scoring by Richardson with 20 points. Chanel Roberts was not far behind with 19 points.

Campbellsville will return to action Saturday, Dec. 6 at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. EST.
