PULASKI, Tenn. — Martin Methodist scored seven runs in a two-inning span and held off Campbellsville 7-3 in Sunday's final game of the MMC Meltdown.

The host RedHawks (6-0) kept their record unblemished and CU (5-1) suffered its first defeat of the 2013-14 season. Still, it's CU's best start in its last nine seasons after the Lady Tigers slipped by Benedictine 4-3 in the first game of the day.

Campbellsville 4, Benedictine 3

The Lady Tigers used three RBI's by junior designated player Sara Paragon and then held on for a 4-3 win over the team they had defeated the night before, 10-2.

Paragon parked the first Lady Tiger home run of the season in the first inning, a two-run shot with Heather Oakley aboard. Oakley had reached on a two-out walk.

Then in the second, CU did some more two-out damage when Brittany Rippy drew a free pass and was advanced to third on a double by Kristin Benton. Shelby Ray was walked and Rippy then scored on a passed ball. After another free pass to Oakley, Paragon's walk plated her third RBI of the game.

Leading 4-0 going into the top of the seventh, Campbellsville's defense all of a sudden became porus. Benedictine was given two additional chances on offense and the Bulldogs responded with three runs, before Hayley Twyman coaxed Dakota Swingler into a game-ending groundout to first.

Tywman did give up three hits, but an error at first and a passed ball gave Benedictine life. Up to that point, starter Victoria Decker was nearly perfect. The sophomore from Leithfield, Ky. allowed one hit and struck out five in her six innings of work.

CU had five hits, Paragon's two and one each by Kristin Benton, Adrean Jordan and Brittany Rippy.

Martin Methodist 7, Campbellsville 3

Two miscues against Benedictine in the seventh inning of a 4-3 win made things interesting, but not fatal. But against MMC, Lady Tiger pitcher Courtney Turpin put herself behind the eight ball, allowing seven hits and two walks in 2 1/3 innings of work.

The senior right hander, allowed six Martin runners to reach base in the second inning, giving up three runs. Then in the third, a three-run homer by Dharianna Familia boosted MMC to a 7-2 lead.

Taylor Wroe pitched 3 2/3 innings of one-hit ball, giving her team an opportunity to make a comeback.

CU got two runners on with no outs in both the fourth and fifth innings, but with nothing to show for it on the scoreboard.

Markie Smith led CU with two hits, singles in the second and fourth innings. Campbellsville's other six hits were spread among Kristin Benton, Shelby Ray (2 RBI), Heather Oakley (1 RBI), Adrean Jordan, Erin Benton and Brittany Rippy. Ray's ground out in the second scored a run as did her single in the fifth. Oakley's double in the third scored Kristin Benton.

Campbellsville will play again Thursday, Feb. 20 in the Alabama Arctic Blast when it faces No. 9 Belhaven at 6:00 and Tennessee Wesleyan at 8:00.
