Box Score 2 LEBANON, Tenn. — Campbellsville's offense and pitching did a one-eighty in the course of 24 hours, as the Lady Tigers dropped a conference doubleheader at chilly Cumberland University today, 4-3 and 11-3.
CU got half as many hits as it did the day before against Georgetown and seven fewer runs.
However, after delivering only three hits in the first game, CU (19-7, 6-2 MSC) was still in control of its own destiny leading 3-1 going into the bottom of the sixth. But Cumberland (13-3, 4-2 MSC) scored two runs in their half of the inning on an infield error and then got the game-winner in the seventh when Kassydi Montgomery hit a walk-off home run to left center field.
Cumberland outhit CU 8-3, but Campbellsville had used its hits efficiently to score all its runs in the top of the sixth when a single by Alyssa Barker scored Brittany Rippy, who walked to open the inning. Then a single by Heather Oakley plated Barker and Kristin Benton, who also had drawn a walk.
Victoria Decker pitched 5 2/3 innings of seven-hit ball in a no decision. Martina Riney (1-2), who gave up the game-winning home run, suffered the loss.
Cumberland's Courtney Maynard (7-1) struck out eight and walked only one Lady Tiger in her complete-game effort.
In game two, Cumberland pounded the ball for 18 hits, four of them home runs. Starter Taylor Wroe (6-1) was chased after 2 1/3 innings and gave way to fellow senior Courtney Turpin. But Turpin couldn't get anyone out either.
CU actually got off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the top of the first on a two-run homer by Sara Paragon. But before Campbellsville could score again the Bulldogs had put up five runs and closed the game with six more runs in the sixth to complete the run rule.
Jessica Lozano (5-1) pitched a four-hitter for Cumberland.
Campbellsville will return home for another conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 15 when it hosts the University of the Cumberlands at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.
