LONDON, Ky. — If your team scored to par anywhere near the outside temperature you were going to be in pretty good shape after Day 1 of the Southeast Kentucky Intercollegiate Golf Tournament today at Crooked Creek Golf Community.

Campbellsville's women's golf team shot a +40 total (four over the temperature) and sit in second place behind the host school, University of the Cumberlands, and one stroke free of third place Lindsey Wilson.

"I'm really happy with our play," said coach Brent Vernon. "Today never got over 40 degree here. Some older players said it was the worst conditions they have played in during their college careers. Our girls did a really good job."

Freshman Cassidy Scantland leads the tournament field after carding a five-over-par 78 (39-39). She leads a trio of golfers by two shots — Courtney Swindle and Candace Stacy of Lindsey Wilson, and Cumberlands' Bri Tokariwski.

After Scantland, Campbellsville packaged an 84 and two 85s to account for their 332 total. Anna Marie Hyatt shot 84 (46-38) and Olivia Parrott (46-39) and Ashley Goodin (40-45) 85s. Grace Gupton shot 103 (49-54).

"We have played maybe four nine-hole rounds," continued Vernon. "With class schedules and the weather, we haven't been able to be outside much. But we have been able to spend some time on the range hitting from the indoor facility."

TEAM SCORES: University of the Cumberlands 326, Campbellsville 332, Lindsey Wilson 333, Union College 348, University of the Cumberlands (B) 352, Milligan College 370, Aquinas College 388, and Indiana Wesleyan University 410.

Round two will start tomorrow when weather allows.
