WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Campbellsville University finished sixth in the Mid-South Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, April 26 at University of the Cumberlands' Taylor Stadium.
I-Rell Patterson led CU with 13 of its 63 team points and finished fourth in the Freshman of the Year standings. Patterson placed second in the high jump with a season-high mark of 1.96m, fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (17.25) and eighth in the triple jump (11.78m).
Demytreus Gipson and Timmy Perdue followed Patterson, each scoring 10 of CU's points. Gipson placed second in the 200-meter dash (22.22), eighth in the 100 (11.20) and eighth in the long jump (6.23m). Perdue was runner-up in the triple jump with a personal record 13.28 meters and seventh in the long jump (6.26m).
Sophomore distance runner Joey Hartlage also set a PR with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:57.47). He had six points for the Tigers.
Aaron Johnson collected five points and earned a spot in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championships with his sixth-place throw in the discus, a career-high 40.14 meters. He was also seventh in the hammer throw (33.67m).
Brett Pierce also scored five points with a fourth-place finish in the 10K (34:08.30).
Johannesburg, Boulware had a PR and placed eighth in two events, the 400-meter dash (53.32) and 400-meter hurdles (59.98). Dylan Ford also scored two points with a seventh-place finish in the 1,500-meter run (4:11.74).
CU also gained 10 points with a pair of fourth-place finishes in the relays. Sean Rainey, Gipson, Perdue and Edgar Lopez teamed up for a time of 44.89 in the 4x100 Meter Relay. Ford, Hartlage, Mason Dubar and Boulware posted a season-best time (8:20.73) in the 4x800.
Campbellsville had five student-athletes receive Academic All-MSC honors, the second most in the conference: Dylan Ford, Wade Harris, Aaron Johnson, Lucas Pennington and Brett Pierce. In order to receive the honor, student-athletes must be a sophomore or higher in academic standing and maintain a 3.25 GPA.
Several Tigers will return to action next weekend at the NCCAA Championships in Rome, Ga.
