Georgetown extends Lady Tigers' losing skid

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Georgetown returned the favor today for a couple of Mid-South Conference teams that appear to be going in different directions, defeating Lady Tiger Softball 5-4 and 5-2 at Tiger Stadium.

Since sweeping Georgetown on March 11, Campbellsville has lost eight of its last 14 while Georgetown is on an 11-3 conference run. The losses drop Campbellsville (25-13, 12-8 MSC) all the way from a tie for second into fourth in the MSC. Georgetown (19-9, 14-6 MSC) cleared its way to solo second place.

Campbellsville managed only 11 hits, four in game two, and committed three errors that led to a costly run in the 5-4 game one loss. Georgetown had 17 hits in the two games.

Game one: Georgetown 5, Campbellsville 4

Kristin Benton's leadoff double led to a first-inning run that would stake CU to the lead until the bottom of the fifth when the home-standing Tigers collected three infield singles and an error helped score two runs. Then a three-run bomb by Sandy Young proved to be the game winner.

The Lady Tigers were able to pick up three runs in the top of the sixth when Adrean Jordan homered with Zatoria Leavell and Heather Oakley aboard. Kendyl Ahrens singled for the potential tying run, but was stranded after a fly out and a grounder to third.

Victoria Decker (10-7) took the loss, pitching five innings of six-hit ball. Martina Riney provided an inning of relief, escaping unscathed from a two-hit frame. Georgetown's Kayla Williams went the distance with her seven hitter.

Game two: Georgetown 5, Campbellsville 2

The Lady Tigers again led 1-0 after a Sara Paragon homer in the second inning, but that was the last time they would lead.

Georgetown scored two runs in the third on a two-run single by Taylor Shaw and three more in the fifth off four hits.

A solo home run by Ahrens in the sixth was as close as CU could get.

Taylor Wroe (10-2) was the loser, getting 1 2/3 innings of relief help from Courtney Turpin.

CU gets back into conference play Tuesday, April 8 when it travels to Columbia Ky. and a matchup with No. 9 Lindsey Wilson College. The doubleheader begins at 4 p.m. ET.
