Scantland, Lady Tigers win RedHawk Spring Invitational

ATHENS, Ala. – Cassidy Scantland and Campbellsville University's all-freshmen women's golf lineup completed their goals Tuesday, winning both the individual and team title at the RedHawk Spring Invitational, hosted by Martin Methodist College at the Canebrake Golf Club.

CU followed up its first round score of 332 with a 322 Tuesday afternoon to lead both days of action.

The tournament win is the Lady Tigers' second of the 2013-14 season and the fourth for Scantland, a freshman from Greensburg, Ky.

"This is a great day today for our team and program. Our goal was to shoot a better score today than yesterday and maintain our lead to win the tournament, and we did that. We had the low round both days as a team, and shot 322 today, which was our best round of the spring," CU women's golf coach Brent Vernon said. "Today was about our team and accomplishing a great thing: five freshmen in our lineup and a tournament win. Hopefully good things will follow this week."

Scantland held her lead from Monday's first round score of 75 by shooting a 76 Tuesday. It is her second win in three tournaments this spring. Her other wins this season include CU's Don Bishop Invitational on Sept. 24, the Bluegrass Fall Classic on Oct. 1 and the University of the Cumberlands' SEKI Invitational on March 18.

Anna Marie Hyatt followed Scantland's lead on the team, shooting a career-best 80 and 81 in her two rounds to finish sixth and receive her first All-Tournament Team selection of her collegiate career.

Olivia Parrott matched Scantland's team-best score Tuesday with a 76 and finished third on the team after shooting 88 in the first round.

Grace Gupton was CU's fourth score shooting 89 and 90 in her two rounds, while Ashley Goodin shot 95 and 89 in her two rounds of the tournament.

Campbellsville (35-14) will return to action April 14-15 in Georgetown College's Bluegrass Spring Classic at Gerry Blossom Golf & Country Club in Georgetown, Ky.
