WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Campbellsville managed just two hits in a 1-0 game one defeat and then banged out 18 hits in an 11-1 game two win to earn a split today with the University of the Cumberlands.

The Lady Tigers (27-15, 14-10 MSC) continue to confound by their inconsistency and now sit in fifth place in the conference after being in second place just 10 days ago. Cumberlands moved to 11-18, 8-8 MSC with the split and hold down seventh place.

CU committed three errors, the crucial one with two outs in the bottom of the seventh that handed Victoria Decker (10-8) the loss.

Decker pitched good enough to win a lot of games, allowing four hits and no walks in seven innings. But she hit two batters in the seventh and then misplayed a two-out grounder that proved to be the game winner.

Decker didn't get any offensive support, as Kendyl Ahrens and Erin Benton were the only Lady Tigers to get a hit. But both were erased from the base paths.

Sara Paragon walked to open the second and was sacrificed to second by Kate Black. That's when Ahrens singled to center. But she got caught stealing and Erin Benton's strikeout ended the threat.

Erin Benton singled to right to lead off the fifth and was advanced to second by Markie Smith. But Brittany Rippy lined out to short and Benton was doubled up.

Campbellsville left three runners on base and UC eight.

Nichol Chesley (8-9) pitched the two-hitter, walking two.

Campbellsville 11, Cumberlands 1

Shannon Wathen used 17 players in the second game, one less then their number of hits.

Markie Smith had a career day. The freshman from Greenville, Ky. had three hits, including two home runs, and knocked in four runs.

Kristin Benton (3), Shelby Ray (3), Reagan Kingrey (2), Kate Black (2) and Brittany Rippy (2) all had multiple hit games. Heather Oakley, Kendyl Ahrens and Erin Benton all had one hit.

Taylor Wroe (11-2) threw five innings of three-hit ball to earn the win. She got no hit relief from both Courtney Turpin and freshman Hayley Twyman, both tossing one inning.

CU entertains Rio Grande, Friday, April 11 at Veterans Memorial Park in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
