Box Score

TROUTVILLE, Va. – Rain disrupted the first inning of play Thursday, but Oklahoma was the one causing a flood Friday afternoon, pouring out 11 runs off 13 hits and three Campbellsville errors in an 11-6 win at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Softball Championships.

Campbellsville (43-20) drops to the elimination bracket, where it will await the winner of Central Baptist University and Azusa Pacific University at 6 p.m. EDT.

Before play was halted Thursday, Campbellsville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Shelby Ray drew a one-out walk and scored on an RBI single by senior Alyssa Barker.

Oklahoma Christian evened the score, 1-1, in the bottom of the first after Lauren Chatigny drew a one-out walk and scored after two passed balls by Markie Smith as rain fell at the Botetourt Sports Complex. All games were suspended for the day shortly after the play, leaving a runner on second and one out for when play resumed Friday at 2 p.m. EDT.

When play resumed, the Eagles picked up where they left off against CU starter Taylor Wroe. Martha Thomas, who had a 1-0 count when the flood game Thursday, drew a walk to open resumed play Friday. Niki Davidson, Courtney Starr, Monique Elliott and Lauren Pittman followed with singles to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead after one inning of play.

Campbellsville was retired in order in the top of the second and the OC Eagles added three more runs off Wroe and the CU defense to make it 7-1 after two. Wroe gave up a trio of one-out singles to put two on and score the first run of the inning before Courtney Turpin took over in the circle. Turpin recorded an RBI ground out by Elliott and then an error at third plated the third Eagles' run.

The Lady Tigers did not fold. Down by six runs, Campbellsville posted a five spot in the top of the third.

Kristin Benton, Ray and Heather Oakley each drew a free pass with a hit by pitch and two walks, respectively, to load the bases. The quick three base runners forced a pitching change. Haley Squier took over in the circle but gave up an RBI walk to Kendyl Ahrens for CU's first run of the day, 7-2. Barker followed with a two-run single for her third RBI of the game. She hit 3-for-4 in the game to lead all players.

With the deficit cut to three runs, CU drew two more walks to Sara Paragon and Smith to reload the bases and plate another run. The walks forced yet another pitching change for the Eagles. New pitcher Taylor Mosher hit Brittany Rippy to pull Campbellsville within a run, 7-6, however, she pitched out of the jam with a pair of ground balls.

Campbellsville held Oklahoma Christian scoreless in the bottom of the third, but the Eagles added two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth to break the game open.

CU had only four base runners the rest of the game. Paragon walked in the fifth but was caught stealing for the third out. K. Benton was stranded in the sixth after reaching base on a one-out double in the sixth. In the seventh, Barker doubled with one out and moved to third on an error. Reagan Kingrey drew a walk to put runners on the corners, but both were stranded after a line out and fielder's choice to end the game.

Mosher (11-6) recoded the win in relief with 4 2/3 innings of work, allowing no runs and two hits. She walked two and struck out six.

Wroe (19-5) took the loss, pitching 1 1/3 innings. She allowed seven runs, six earned, off eight hits and two walks. Turpin pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, off three hits and a walk. Martina Riney pitched the sixth inning for CU.
