COLUMBIA, Ky. — Campbellsville Lady Tiger golf overcame obstacle after obstacle on Saturday in the inaugural women's President's Cup with Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.). CU takes a two-point lead over the Blue Raiders after round one of the Ryder Cup style tournament.
"I am pleased with how the girls helped each other throughout the round," said Lady Tiger head coach
Kim Goodin. "I couldn't be more thrilled to get off to a start like this after a few injuries early on."
Â
Three Lady Tigers helped carry the load for CU with Cassidy Scantland, defending Mid-South Conference Champion, Freshman and Player of the Year, sitting out due to injury. Also, freshman Rachel Carter (sick) and Carlie Hazel (injury) both missed the first tournament of the year.
Â
Anna Marie Hyatt, Mikayla Smith and Olivia Parrott led the charge for CU, firing 79s. But Campbellsville picked up three points over the host Lindsey Wilson's one.
Â
Hyatt and Smith were paired together against LWC's Flore De Faveri and Shayne Cockrill. The CU duo defeated the Blue Raider twosome 4-3 to pick up one point.
Â
Ashley Goodin and Parrott defeated Kayla Cordeiro and Courtney Swindle 2-1 for the second point. Taylor Phelps and Grace Gupton also won 2-1 over Christina Jimenez and Megan Kriz.
Â
The lone Blue Raider point came from Amy Brown, as she defeated freshman Kellimae Polston, 7-6.

Â
"At practice it seemed like we have been struggling a little bit," said Goodin. "But I call the three girls who shot a 79 today my gamers. It seems like when things get tight, they have stepped up. All three of those girls are five or six strokes better than they played today."
Â
Tomorrow's second round of the Presidents Cup will have a different setup, as stroke play will be the scoring method.
Â
"Tomorrow is super important we stay focused with the different format," said Goodin. "I think the girls have to be more worried about individual score and not necessarily team score with stroke play being the scoring system."
Â
Campbellsville will tee-off tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. ET at the Pines Golf Course in Columbia, Ky.
