"I was amazed at the play today," said first-year head coach Kim Goodin. "The conditions that we started in were awful but it feels so good to start this way."
Â
Campbellsville came into the final round of the Presidents Cup with a two-point lead, 3-1, after yesterday's best ball scoring system.
Â
CU picked up its first point of the day after sophomore Grace Gupton shot a career-low 80 in the final round. Gupton clinched the point on the 15th hole, winning 5 and 4 over Megan Kriz.
Â
Taylor Phelps was playing along with Gupton and also won the Lady Tigers a point by defeating Christina Jimenez 2 and 1.
Â
Kellimae Polston dropped a point to make the score, 5-2 but Campbellsville was able to hold on down the stretch.
Â
Going into the 16th hole, Olivia Parrott was down by one and ended up taking a five on the hole. But her opponent Courtney Swindle, failed to replace her ball mark on the green to its original position, which cost Lindsey Wilson the hole.
Â
With the penalty, Parrott went back to all-square and picked up a one-hole lead by parring the 17th hole and Swindle bogeying. Going into the 18th hole, one up, Parrot and Swindle both parred giving Campbellsville it's sixth point.
Â
Senior, Mikayla Smith went into the final hole down one. But made a clutch 10-foot par putt to tie the match and give CU a half point, 6 ½.
Â
In the final foursome, the match was decided on the 16th hole. Ashley Goodin finished with a 74 on the day, beating Kayla Cordeiro, 3 and 2.
Â
Although, Hyatt was the individual medalist, she lost her match to Flore De Faveri, 2 and 1. De Faveri shot a second round 74, but finished with a total of 161 (87-74) for the two days.
Â
Hyatt finished with five three putts in her final round, but still hung on to shoot a plus-four, 76.
Â
"Anna Marie hit the ball really well today," said Goodin. "Her putting is what hurt her, but even though she had those five three putts, think how the round could have turned out if she would have knocked off a putt on those five holes. She has stepped up her game from last year and I expect her to be one of the leaders all season."
Â
"I am really excited," said Hyatt. "I hit almost every fairway and green in regulation. When I didn't hit the fairway, I made a few good irons shots that set me up for pars. This is a huge boost for our team to start the season like this and hope to continue this play going into next week."
Â
Campbellsville picks up its first win in 2014 and will travel to Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky. for the Bill Sergeant Invitational hosted by University of the Cumberlands, on Thursday-Friday, Sept. 7-8.
