Anna Marie Hyatt led CU and is tied for first place with a seven-over, 79.
Â
"I am very pleased after round one," said CU head coach Kim Goodin. "This course plays really tough and with the windy conditions and weather this morning it was a little different environment than we are used to."
Â
Campbellsville as a team sits six strokes better than Cumberland University. The Lady Tigers have five golfers in the Top 10 of the individual leaderboard. Cumberland and University of Pikeville each have three in the Top 10.
Â
Freshman Rachel Carter and sophomore Olivia Parrott each fired nine-over, 81's in the round. Ashley Goodin finished with a 12-over, 84 and lone senior Mikayla Smith finished with a 90 to round out the Campbellsville top five.
Â
"The thing I like about my team the most is when someone struggles, the next person is there to step up," said Goodin. "Mikayla (senior) has played well all fall but she struggled today. But then you have underclassmen like Anna Marie Hyatt (sophomore), Olivia Parrott (sophomore) and Rachel Carter (freshman) all come in with very nice rounds."
Â
The Lady Tigers had four individuals in the field, with Cassidy Scantland shooting 11-over, 83. Taylor Phelps (88), Grace Gupton (89) and Kellimae Polston (96) rounded out the CU team.
Â
Campbellsville sits ahead of Cumberland, as the Bulldogs finished with a team score of 331. Katie Legge (79) is tied for first with Hyatt after round one.
University of Pikeville sits in third place with a team score of 334, Asbury University is fourth.
Round two will start at 9 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start.
Â
"Tomorrow we will see if we are mentally ready," said Goodin. "Cumberland University and Pikeville are right there behind us. We have to stay focused and not let the outside world come in during our rounds. But I like our chances that is for sure."
