Tigers finish fifth at UPike Invitational

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — Campbellsville men's golf took a step back on Tuesday. The Tigers dropped from third place and finished in fifth in the University of Pikeville Fall Invitational at StoneCrest Country Club.



 

The Tigers dropped back four strokes from yesterday's first round score of 310 and finished with a 314 in today's finale (+48, 624).

 

Campbellsville's Dalton Olson led the way for the Tigers in round two with a 77. He finished tied for 10th place with Michael Newton, shooting a 155.

 

Andrew Jansen finished with a 156 (77-79), which placed him in 12th. And Tanner Hall finished with a 158 (79-79), placing him in 15th place. Wade Cave improved his first round score by four strokes but still struggled to get anything going, shooting a final round 80 (T29).

 

James Higgins played as an individual in the tournament and finished in 19th place with 160 (81-79).

 

University of Pikeville was the only team to shoot in the 200's on both days and finished with a team score of 588 (+12, 293-295). The Bears had three golfers in the top four with Will Boyd and Casey Castle tying for first place with Shawnee State University's Josh Zornes.

 

Boyd defeated teammate Castle and MSC foe Zornes in the first playoff hole to take the individual championship.

 

Bluefield College finished in second place with a team score of 614, Georgetown College was third with a 616 and Shawnee State University finished in fourth place with a score of 620.

 

St. Catharine College and Alice Lloyd College sat behind Campbellsville in sixth and seventh place, respectfully.

 

FINAL SCORES

 

Campbellsville will now host the NCCAA MidEast Region at Old Silo Golf Club in Mt. Sterling, Ky. on Oct 6-7.

 

The Tigers will then travel to Bardstown, Ky. for the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament hosted at Maywood Country Club.
