Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Third-ranked Campbellsville Lady Tiger basketball (LTB) overcome its worse first half performance this season, forcing 30 turnovers and holding No. 25 Georgetown College to its lowest point total since at least 2003-04 to beat the host Lady Tigers, 55-39.
BOX SCORE
Georgetown picked up its first lead at 11-7 after Haley Armstrong scored four-straight points, but Madison Clements hit Campbellsville's lone triple in the first half to tie the game at 14. GC quickly retook the lead but LeeAnn Grider hit a slashing Kristen Jacob to push CU back ahead, 17-16. Jacob scored four straight to push CU ahead 18-15 at half time. Campbellsville never trailed after the Grider and Jacob hookup.
While Campbellsville shot just 23 percent (7-for-30) in the first half, it hit 63 percent (12-of-19) in second half and finished hitting 37.8 percent (19-of-49) for the game.
CU stepped up its defensive pressure and scored 25 points off Georgetown's 30 turnovers, the second-most GC turnovers this season. The third-ranked Lady Tigers finished with 14 steals.
For the second consecutive game the bench aided CU on the offensive end. Lindsey Burd led Campbellsville with 12 points off the bench and gave CU its first four-possession lead, 31-23, with 13:40 remaining in regulation. Georgetown whittled the lead to four, 31-27, but could get any closer.
Campbellsville used its high pressured defense to make Georgetown go cold from the floor from 12:40 mark to the 7:50 mark after a pair of Teonia McCune free throws.
McCune was the difference maker in the paint for GC, standing at 6-foot-5, but played only 12 minutes due to foul trouble. Ziese also stayed in foul trouble, playing just eight minutes of the game. When McCune and Emilie Ziese both fouled out with six minutes remaining, CU pushed the pedal to the floor.
Chelsea Craig was able to push CU ahead by 11 points, 42-31 and Georgetown was unable to get the lead down to double digits again.
Craig led Campbellsville with six rebounds, as Georgetown outrebounded CU, 44-32.
Campbellsville (19-1, 5-1 MSC) will stay on the road in Mid-South Conference and travel to No. 12 Shawnee State University on Saturday, Jan. 24. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast live on 88.7 The Tiger.
