Lindsey Wilson ends Lady Tigers' perfect bid, 2-0

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Top-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) traveled to Tiger Town Tuesday night and ended the Lady Tigers hopes of a perfect season. The Blue Raiders beat No. 14 Campbellsville 2-0 in front of packed Finley Stadium.

Lindsey Wilson (10-1-2) scored twice in the 48th and 57th minutes to give Campbellsville (15-1) its first loss of the season.

The Blue Raiders' Yvonne Ploeg broke the scoreless tie and then was followed with a  Lyana Perez goal just nine minutes later.

Lindsey Wilson caused havoc all night in the box but sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Howard finished with a career-high 14 saves and gave the Lady Tigers a chance. LWC finished with a total of 16 shots on goal compared the Campbellsville's two.

The best chance all night for the Lady Tigers came in the 74th minute after Mikaela Brewitz received a yellow card on a hard slide tackle just outside the 18-yard box. Kathryn Thomas delivered a beauty into the box and Erica McWilliams picked up a loose ball but her shot hit the left post.

Campbellsville was unable to keep the momentum late and did not record a shot in the final 16 minutes.

Johanna Henriksson finished with two saves for the Blue Raiders.

"I am very pleased with the effort tonight from our team," said coach Thom Jones. "We made a few mistakes early in the second half and Lindsey capitalized on them. That is what the No. 1 team in the nation is supposed to do when we make mistakes."

Lindsey Wilson (5-0) is now a half game ahead of Campbellsville in the Mid-South Conference standings at 5-0. The Lady Tigers are 5-1 inside the conference and No. 24 Georgetown sits in third at 4-2-1.

Campbellsville will now travel to Cumberland (Tenn.) next Tuesday, Oct. 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
