Tigers win NCCAA Mid-East Regional, heading to Panama City

VONORE, Tenn.— Day two for the Campbellsville University men's golf team came down to one stroke. The Tigers defeated Belhaven (Miss.) 601-602.

In the dramatic finish, the Tigers were the ones that prevailed and qualified for the NCCAA National Tournament held in Panama City, Fla. at The Hombre on Oct. 18-21.

"The course was playing fair today," said coach Jim Ward. "The pins were about the same difficulty as yesterday but there was some more wind today. It was a rough start for a few guys but everyone held it together and finished strong."

Going into the national tournament Ward said there is work to be done.

"We need to hit some more greens in regulation to give us more birdie opportunities. We need to also be more consistent day to day. I want us to put two good rounds together and try to make the cut. Then we will take it from there."

Junior James Higgins led the Tigers today as he shot a 74 (35-39). Higgins shot a 73 yesterday leaving him with a two-day total of 145.

Higgins tied sophomore, Pierce Dahl in the two-day scoring. Dahl recorded a 75 (36-39) today adding on to his 70 from yesterday.

The two tied for second place behind Belhaven University's Andy Bartelt who shot rounds of 71-73 (144).
