Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Ryan's PK shoots Tigers into MSC title match next week

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — In the 69th minute captain Alex Ryan capitalized on a penalty kick and pushed Campbellsville men's soccer past University of the Cumberlands in the Mid-South Conference semifinal game, 1-0.

The regular season champions will now play two-seed Cumberland University (18-1) in the MSC championship on Friday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. ET at Lovers Lane Soccer Complex in Bowling Green, Ky. The Bulldogs knocked Lindsey Wilson out of the tournament with a 2-1 win on Friday night.

The Alex Ryan score came just after teammate Ryan Foster was fouled inside the 18-yard box. It was his fourth goal of the season and first game-winner. The ninth-ranked Tigers improve to 17-2 overall.

"We really learned a lot about ourselves tonight," said CU coach Adam Preston. "This was a huge win for our program. The guys are really coming together and playing well at the right time in the year. It's an exciting time at Campbellsville University but we still have a lot of work and preparation for next week."

Campbellsville dominated the stat line with 17 shots and seven on goal. Cumberlands only recorded four shots but all three were stopped by goalkeeper Gonzalo Sapena.

The Patriots' Ahmed Ghatway finished with six saves but allowed the one goal.

Looking ahead to the MSC title game:
Then-No. 18 Campbellsville knocked off then-No. 6 Cumberland exactly one week ago, 3-0 in Lebanon, Tenn.

Campbellsville and Cumberland are both looking for their first MSC tournament title. Lindsey Wilson has won 13 of the last 15 but a new champion will arise this season, as the Blue Raiders were eliminated tonight.
