Fyfe pushes Lady Tigers into MSC title game

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — In the 78th minute Campbellsville's Rachel Veatch hit Mhairi Fyfe on a breakaway to end a scoreless tie with rival Georgetown College and pushed the Lady Tigers to their first Mid-South Conference Championship game in history, 1-0.

After a corner kick for Georgetown, the Lady Tigers reversed the field in a hurry and took advantage of a mismatch deep in the GC defense. Kathryn Thomas played the ball into the box and Veatch found Fyfe for her 26th goal of the season and eighth game-winner of the year – which ranks No. 2 in the NAIA. The assist was Veatch's eighth in 2015.

Campbellsville will now play Lindsey Wilson College on Friday, Nov. 13 at 3:30 p.m. ET at Lovers Lane Soccer Complex in Bowling Green, Ky. CU is seeking its first MSC tournament title in its first championship game appearance. Lindsey Wilson will be playing for its 12th title in the previous 13 years.

"It's very exciting to come in here as the second seed and take care of business the way we did," said Jones. "It was a very intense game but we prevailed and fought harder when we needed to. I am very proud of the entire team and the way they come together when we needed it."

Campbellsville dominated the overall game but was unable to capitalize on many chances. The Lady Tigers recorded 12 shots but only three on goal. Georgetown only recorded one shot but Sarah Hencke missed way high.

"The first half we played totally out of our game," said Jones. "We were very disconnected as a team but we made one simple adjustment at halftime and then we talked about how bad we wanted this game. I think the girls proved that in the second half."

Amanda Howard had a fairly easy night in goal but the credit goes to the midfield and the defense. Georgetown's Danielle Lang finished with two saves.

"Chelsea Gill played very well tonight," said Jones. "We held Chelsea back to win the 50-50's in the center-mid so then we could push Kathryn Thomas up to be more involved in the offense. We dominated the second half possesion and it was all because of the play in the center-mid position."
