CU hoops ends 2015 with 90-75 win over Truett-McConnell

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville men's basketball ends the 2015 calendar year with a four-game win streak and improved its home record to 9-0 in the first half of the season after outlasting Truett-McConnell College Saturday night, 90-75.

Dii'jon Allen-Jordan led the Tigers by tying his career-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his NAIA-leading ninth double-double. He finished  hitting 9-of-11 from the floor, 9-of-12 from the free throw line and knocked down his lone 3-point attempt.

Freshmbyan Hagen Tyler knocked down four 3-point baskets and five 2-point field goals to score his 22 points. Sekou Harris added another 13 to round the Tigers out in double-digits.

The Tigers now extend their program record home win-streak to 25 games after finishing with a 16-0 mark last season in Powell Athletic Center.

Truett-McConnell scored the first two points of the game but Tyler swished his first 3-pointer to give the Tigers the lead for good.

From 11:33 to 9:00, Allen-Jordan scored 6-of-7 points for the Tigers and gave CU its first double-digit lead. The Tigers pushed their lead to 11 four times but the Bears would keep answering with buckets on the other end of the floor to get the lead back down to single-digits.

Tyler made his second 3-pointer and Shawn Johnson hit two free throws to push the lead to 15 before Truett-McConnell's J'Quayveon Williams scored two of his team-leading 20 points to cut the lead to 47-34 at halftime.

The Bears came out of the intermission with a spark, cutting the lead to six, 52-46 – their smallest deficit since 11:51 when the score was 21-15. But before Truett-McConnell would realize, the Tigers would go on a 14-4 run and push its margin to 16 points, 66-50, with 12:58 left.

The foul situation got iffy in the second half and the game went to a snail's crawl, as Truett-McConnell picked up its 10th team foul at the 12:00 mark. Campbellsville took advantage and knocked down 16-of-21 free throws in the second period compared to only 5-of-9 for the Bears. Campbellsville also had the advantage in fouls, recording only 15 compared to TMC's 25.

After shooting 55 percent in the first half, the Tigers would settle a bit in the second and allowed Truett-McConnell to cut the deficit to single-digits with 3:15 remaining. But Williams fouled out and the Bears missed their next four shots, while Campbellsville would finish the game on a 10-2 run.

The stat sheet was even across the board, Campbellsville held the slight advantage in rebounding, 39-36; turnovers, 13-15; second chance points, 14-13; and points off turnovers, 19-12. Bench scoring was even at 15 apiece and points in the paint was equal at 36.
