Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Leading by 12 points with just over 13 minutes left third-ranked Campbellsville could not hold down University of Pikeville. The Bears used a big second half run to end an 18-game losing streak in the series against CU, upsetting the Lady Tigers, 74-71.

Campbellsville led by 12 points midway through the second half, 52-40, but University of Pikeville gave CU a little of its own medicine. The Bears matched a first half run by CU and ended up going on a 18-5 run themselves to retake the lead, 58-57. After trading baskets for the remaining 7:48, UPIKE went up 63-59, but Emily Fox and Caroline Owen sparked CU with consecutive 3s to reclaim a 65-63 lead with 3:50 left.
Fox finished with 17 points to lead the Lady Tigers off 6-of-13 shooting. Five of those makes came from behind the 3-point line. Owen finished with nine points - all from 3.
"She has got a lot better," Colvin said of Fox. "It took a few games to get her confidence where it needed to be, but she has been a big spark off the bench for us."
Lindsey Burd ended up putting CU back up, 69-68, and Daizah Kimberland drew a charge on the opposite end to give Campbellsville the ball back with under two minutes remaining. Chelsea Craig was fouled on the ensuing possession and knocked down both free throws to extend the Lady Tiger lead, 71-68. But Campbellsville went scoreless the final two minutes.
UPIKE took advantage of a Craig offensive foul and Kandice Porter pulled the Bears to within one, 71-70, with 37 seconds remaining. Porter finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Craig had a chance to extend the Lady Tiger lead with 27 seconds left but missed the front end of bonus free throws, giving UPIKE the ball and head coach Joanna McNamee called a timeout.
Khalilah Quigley found Porter on the ensuing inbounds pass for another bucket, pushing the Bears ahead, 72-71, with 20.5 seconds left.
CU head coach Ginger Colvin called a timeout but Craig missed a contested jumper to take the lead. Quigley picked up the rebound and was fouled. She hit both free throws to extend the lead, 74-71, with 1.2 seconds.
LeeAnn Grider had an open look from half court but missed as time expired to seal UPIKE's first victory over the Lady Tigers in the previous 19 chances. Grider dished out a career-high 12 assits but failed to score on the night.
"I dont agree with the 'we needed a loss' statement," said Colvin. "But we have been on cruise control lately, and we did not execute late down the stretch."
Craig finished with 12 points and seven rebounds - six were on the offensive glass. Burd led the Lady Tigers on the glass with 10 boards and finished with 11 points for her second double-double this season.
The Lady Tigers struggled with the defensive pressure UPIKE applied in the second half. The Bears went to an extended full-court press and forced costly turnovers down the stretch. CU finished with 16 turnvers and UPIKE picked up eight steals off those turnovers. The Bears turned the ball over 18 times for 12 Lady Tiger steals.
Campbellsville only recorded 16 rebounds in the second half after picking up 31 in the first half. Twenty-three of those 47 were on the offensive glass and the Lady Tigers capitlalized with 21 second chance points.
"We practiced against two full-courts presses all week and tonight it looked like we panicked," said Colvin. "We can't do that in big games, and I told them tonight would be a big game."
Before the fireworks for UPIKE in the second half, Campbellsville controlled the middle portion of the game. The Bears hit three conseuctive 3s to open the game but it was all CU in the next 25 minutes until the 18-5 run. UPIKE finished hitting 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from deep for the game and CU finished hitting 9-of-28 (32.1 percent) from behind the arc.
The Lady Tigers finished well ahead of Pikeville in the bench scoring column with 34 compared to the Bears 15. Fox's 17 contributed to that and also Lindey Young's eight and Madison Clements seven.
But CU could not stop the duo of Quigley and Porter down the stretch. Quigley finished with a game-high 29 points, hitting 8-of-18 from the floor, 4-of-9 from 3-point land and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. Porter finished with 16 points, hitting 7-of-11 from the floor. Kelah Eldridge also scored in double figures with 12 points.
Campbellsville will look to get back on the winning ways after losing its first game in 13 matchups. The Lady Tigers will stay on the road and travel to Williamsburg, Ky. against University of the Cumberlands on Saturday, Feb. 14.
