CU finishes 26th in Hoosier Classic, USBC Sectionals next

INDIANAPOLIS – Campbellsville University women's bowling finished 26th of 67 teams over the weekend in its biggest tournament of the year, the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic.

The finish helped the Lady Tigers finish ranked 23rd in the final regular season college bowling rankings to earn a bid to the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Sectionals in Smyrna, Tenn., March 14-15.

Chelsey Stephens led the Tigers, placing 41st overall and in the Top 20 among NAIA bowlers in the 450-bowler field. Stephens averaged 187 pins per game, topping out at 212 pins in her sixth game.

Keysha Martin was next for CU at 118th overall with a 169.22 average and a high of 233 in the third game. Crystal Land followed in 172nd place with a 177.25 average in eight games. She topped out at 212 in her seventh game.

Haley Roehl competed in six games and finished 281st with a 174 pin average. Kaylee Kaminski was 296th with a 165 average in six games. Kylah Martin competed in five games with a 173.60 average and Ashley Newman bowled two games for a 186.50 average.

Wichita State, Pikeville, Lindenwood, Midland and Grand View finished Top 5 in the team standings, with Wichita State winning the tournament in bracket play, beating sixth-seed Newman head-to-head in the final.

Campbellsville concludes its 2014-15 regular season and will travel to Smyrna Lanes in Smyrna, Tenn., March 14-15 for the USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals. The top four teams in the 16-team sectional will advance to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships in Wichita, Kan., April 15-18.

In the Smyrna sectional, Campbellsville will compete against Adrian, Aquinas, Ball State, Bethel, Central Florida, Concordia, Cumberlands, Emmanuel, Florida State, Huntington, Indiana Tech, Lindenwood, Marian, McKendree, Pikeville, St. Catharine and UAB.
