Lady Tigers, Goodin sit in second at MSC Championship

BARDSTOWN, Ky. — (RESULTS) Campbellsville women's golf overcame a steady downpour to sit in second place after round one of the Mid-South Conference Championships at Maywood Country Club.

The Lady Tigers (306) is four strokes behind the leader, University of the Cumberlands (302).

Campbellsville's top five all carded scores at 80 or lower with Ashley Goodin leading the way, firing a one-over, 73. Goodin rolled in three birdies, 12 pars, one bogey and one double bogey for her first-round score.

Anna-Marie Hyatt sits in fourth place with a four-over, 76. Hyatt was even through her first nine holes but fell off the pace going four-over in her opening four holes on the back. She did birdie the par three, No. 8 but gave that shot back with a bogey on her final hole.

Olivia Parrott overcame seven bogeys and also birdied the par three No. 8 – her lone birdie  — shooting a 78. Reigning MSC Champion, Cassidy Scantland finished with seven bogeys as well to sit in ninth place. Rachel Carter rounded out the CU top five with an eight-over 80 to sit tied for 10th.

Senior Mikayla Smith, the lone senior for the Lady Tigers, sits in 16th place after a first-round 80. Two holes kept Smith out of carding a respectable round with a double bogey on hole No. 12 and triple on No. 17.

Campbellsville finished ahead of the field in par 3's (+1) and par 4's (+21) scoring but was four-over on the par 5's. University of the Cumberlands took advantage of the longer holes and finished four-under on all the par fives.

Cumberland University (316) sits in third place, 10 strokes behind Campbellsville. University of Pikeville (332), Lindsey Wilson College (334), Georgetown College (375) and St. Catharine College (411) round out the rest of the team scores.

Cumberlands' Rachel Pingleton sits in first place after firing the only round under par. Pingleton shot a two-under, 70 with four birdies and one bogey.

The annual banquet is scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m. ET at Maywood CC. Photo galleries and stories will be posted later tonight from the banquet.
