Tigers struggle in final round of MSC

BARDSTOWN, Ky. — Campbellsville men's golf couldn't overcome 30-plus MPH winds and fell off the pace in the final round of the Mid-South Conference Championship. The Tigers slipped to eighth place with a team score of 331.

INDIVIDUAL LEADERBOARD

Wade Cave recorded the lowest score for Campbellsville with a seven-over, 79. He finished with six bogeys, one double and one birdie. The one red number came on the par-four No. 7.

Michael Newton worked himself back into contention with a 71 in round two and had a six-stroke lead going into the final round for Player of the Year honors. But the senior struggled on his back nine holes in round three and fell out of contention. Newton finished with a final round 82 and settled for a tie for 10th. His play throughout the three conference tournaments in the fall and spring gave him First Team All-Conference honors.

All-conference teams are based on performances throughout the three MSC tournaments – fall MSC tournament, spring MSC tournament and the MSC Championship.

James Higgins, who was tied for the lead after round one, fell to 20th place after a final round, 83.

Senior Dalton Olson and sophomore John Eastridge shot 87 and 92, respectively. Freshman Tyler Harrod, who played as an individual finished in 40th place with a final round 84.

Lindsey Wilson's Chris Butler finished ahead of teammate Federico Navarro for medalist honors. Butler fired, 73-73-71 in his three rounds to win the Mid-South Conference Championship.

The Blue Raiders won the team championship as well and picked up the automatic bid for the NAIA National Tournament in Dayton Beach, Fla. on May 19. LWC shot 892 as a team and finished ahead of University of the Cumberlands (907) by 15 strokes.
