CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Lady Tiger offense finally awakened in the second half tonight after an hour-long lighting delay, scoring four times against Tennessee Wesleyan at Finley Stadium.Â
Campbellsville pushes its best start in program history to 7-0 with tonight's win. Since 2007 the best start to a season was last year's 3-0, before Tennessee Wesleyan College beat CU 2-0 in Athens, Tenn.
Campbellsville turned up the heat in the second half off the foot of Chelsea Gill. Her first goal came in the 48th minute.
Three minutes later Devon Burnside bounced a header off a rebound from Mhairi Fyfe to connect with the back of the net. That was Burnside's first goal on the season and the 11th of her career.
In the 62nd minute Veatch helped Gill by assisting in her second goal of the night. It pushed the Lady Tigers to a 3-0 lead over the Bulldogs. It was Gill's third goal of the season and 12th of her career.
Fyfe scored the final goal of the evening after dribbling for 10-yards and juking her defender. Fyfe has 47 career goals and is only six away from breaking the school's all-time record. She is currently ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Division 1 individual rankings for total goals made with nine.
The Lady Tigers had a total of 27 shots with 19 on goal. Tennessee Wesleyan had 15 saves in the game. The Bulldogs recorded only seven shots and four on goal. Amanda Howard stopped all of them.
CU hits the road for two conference games before returning to Finley Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 24. On Tuesday, Sept. 15 the Lady Tigers travel to Springfield, Ky. to play St. Catharine at 6 pm. ET. The next Tuesday CU will go to Portsmouth, Ohio to matchup against the Shawnee State Bears.
