Stephens leads CU to 2nd place finish at Green River Classic

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Lady Tiger bowling started their 2015-16 season in the friendly confines of Phillips Lanes for the 7th Green River Classic this weekend, finishing in second place.

The Lady Tigers placed just behind Pikeville's team championship of 7,016 pins - Campbellsville had 6688.

Chelsey Stephens, a senior from Frankfort, Ky., finished with three games in the 200's, helping her to a fourth place finish to lead Campbellsville with 965 total pins. Stephens had two rounds of 186 and 167 which kept her from a second place finish, as she sat behind St. Catharine's Casey Baryla (984) and Tiffany Webb (974) for second and third, respectively.

Pikeville's Katelyn Simpson ran away with tournament medalist honors finishing with 1,100 total pins for the five games bowled. Her highest round came in her third game with a 254 – that was also the highest round for the tournament.

Keysha Martin was the next Lady Tiger in the individual standings knocking down 924 pins on the weekend to finish in eighth place.

Freshmen Katlyn Hoeh and Haley Wade, who were playing in their first collegiate tournament, finished in the Top 20. Hoeh finished in 14th with 891 pins and Wade was just behind her in 17th with 877 pins.

Stephens' partner in last year's Mid-South Conference Doubles Championship, Crystal Land, also finished in the Top 20 with 871 pins – good for 18th.

Other bowlers for Campbellsville: Mackenzie Taylor (33rd, 802 pins); Emily Florence (41st, 713 pins); Kylah Martin (64th, 617 pins); La'Dell Miranda (96th place, 428 pins); Ashley Newman (111th place, 278 pins).

Lindenwood-Belleville finished in third place in the team standings with 6,510 total pins. Morehead State University finished in fourth (6,288) and University of the Cumberland rounded out the Top 5 with 6,273 pins.

The Lady Tigers will resume action next weekend, Oct. 3-4, at the Southern Kentucky Classic in Bowling Green, Ky.
