Lady Tigers dominate Cumberlands, 4-0

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Lady Tiger soccer had a big second half on Tuesday night and defeated University of the Cumberlands in their first Mid-South Conference match, 4-0.

Campbellsville (6-0, 1-0 MSC) scored three goals in the second period and put the game out of reach quickly.

Kathryn Thomas scored in the 61st minute and just five minutes later Mhairi Fyfe put Campbellsville ahead, 3-0 in the 66th minute.

Valeska Tovar scored her second goal of the season off a pass from Rachel Mobley in the final minute to put the icing on the cake.

"All 10 girls were behind the ball and always on defense," said Jones. "We had to make an adjustment on the offensive side of the field and we did that in the second half. We weren't trying to force the ball in the second half as much and we tried to switch the field to the side or backside. We were more efficient in the second half."

In the first half, Morgan Danis went from defender to offense and headed in a corner kick by Aris Kuntz. It was Danis' second goal of the season off a corner kick and Kuntz' second assist.

Cumberlands (2-1-1, 0-1 MSC) struggled on the offensive end and recorded only three shots.

Amanda Howard collected her fifth shutout of the season. The reigning Mid-South Conference Defender of the Week recorded three saves in the win.

The Lady Tigers have outscored their opponents 23-1 this season, but a big part of that goes to the defense.

"Cumberlands controlled the tempo and possession of the game," said Jones. "We were patient and worked the ball out of the back and that helped transition us to go from defense to offense."

Campbellsville will stay home on Friday, Sept. 11 but will host non-conference opponent Tennessee Wesleyan College at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed live – http://www.portal.stretchinternet.com/camp/

"We haven't reached our full potential yet," said Jones. "We have to peak at the right time to go far in the post season. We have started the season better than any other team that has come through our program. But nobody remembers how you start the season it's how you finish."
