MCDERMOTT, Ohio — After four scores 73 and lower in the first round of the Shawnee State Invitational, Campbellsville University men's golf is sitting in first place.
The Tigers have four in the Top 8 after Day 1 results were finalized on Sunday night and three of those are sitting tied for fifth or better.
Justin Warman has continued the great start to his career, as the freshman from Georgetown, Ky. fired a two-under 70. He currently is in second place behind Shawnee State's Dgan Abdon who carded a four-under 68 in the opening round.
Campbellsville has a pair of Tigers sitting tied for fifth, as
Tristan Blevins and
James Higgins both finished with even-par 72s.
Rounding out the Tigers in the Top 10 is
Seito Miyazaki who finished with a one-over 73.
The last Tiger counting in the team score is Lawrenceburg, Ky. native
Tyler Harrod who finished with a four-over 76.
Campbellsville had an individual competing in the field as
Javin Thomas shot a five-over 77 in Round 1. Individually he currently is tied for 17
th.
As a team, the Tigers shot 287 to lead the 10-team field by 15 strokes. University of Pikeville is second (302), while Midway University is third (306), West Virginia Tech is fourth (308) and Shawnee State is tied with Indiana University East for fifth (309). Bluefield College (316), Ohio Christian (319), and Kentucky Christian (340) round out the team standings.
The second of three rounds tees off on Monday, Oct. 17 at Elks Country Club.
