Fighting Tigers travel to Cumberland on Saturday, Oct. 22

LEBANON, Tenn. — After coming up just short in a big comeback attempt against Bethel University last weekend, Campbellsville is back on the gridiron Saturday, Oct. 22 at Cumberland University.

The Fighting Tigers (1-5 0-2) and Cumberland (3-4, 0-2) are both looking for their first Mid-South Conference West Division wins of the season.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Nokes-Lasater Field in Lebanon, Tenn. Jordan Alves will start Campbellsville's coverage with the Tiger Tailgate Show at 7:30 p.m. on 88.7 The Tiger and the CU Sports Network. Jim Freeman and Matt Payton will have the call for their 39th-game working alongside together in the booth.

Tiger Clawz: Campbellsville trying to create momentum vs. Cumberland

• Campbellsville and Cumberland are meeting for the first time with both teams winless in the Mid-South Conference West Division.
• Head coaches Perry Thomas and Donnie Suber are meeting for the fourth time with the series tied at 2-2.
• Campbellsville's five losses on the season have been by an average of 8.8 points per game.

• In the first six games of the season, kicker Bradley Bates has hit 10 field goals - including a career-long 42-yard field goal vs. Faulkner. He ranks No. 1 in field goals per game (1.7) and total field goals (10) while also ranking No. 2 in total scoring (57). Bates is four FGs away from tying Donnie Johnson's record set in 2003. Bates was named the MSC Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 3.
• Quarterback Hunter Brown has led another high-power offense for Campbellsville. Brown is 184-for-313 passing with 24 touchdowns to his credit. He has thrown over 300 yards three times, 500 yards once and 600 yards once.
• Brown ranks No. 1 in the NAIA in passing yards per game (409.7) - a mark that will shatter the single- season record set by Jacob Russell in 2015 at 334.2.
• For the second-straight season, WR Tyus Alcorn has led CU's receiving attack. He ranks No. 5 in the NAIA with 115.3 yards per game and No. 8 in total yards (692). He is looking to become the fourth CU receiver to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark in a season.

Scouting Cumberland University

• Redshirt sophomore quarterback Dezmon Huntley was not listed on the two-deep this week after sustaining an injury last weekend. He will be replaced by senior Justin Snyder.
• Huntley leads the Mid-South Conference and ranks 14th nationally in rushing yards per game (106.3). His 638 yards on the ground rank second in the league and 18th in the country as well. The Mableton, Ga., native has rushed for over 100 yards in four of his six outings.
• Redshirt senior Nathan Jernigan ranks second in the Mid-South Conference and 18th nationally with 9.9 tackles per game this season. The Eagleville, Tenn., native has led the Phoenix in tackles each of the last three seasons, earning Mid-South Conference West Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2015. He has a team-leading 69 tackles with 8.0 tackles for loss and four sacks through seven games this season.
• Cumberland's defense has just forced six turnovers on the season.
• The Phoenix forced just 12 turnovers in 2015 – six fumbles and six interceptions – after registering 27 takeaways in 2014 and between 25 and 32 takeaways every season but one from 2009-14.
• The unit was on the field for 34-plus minutes on four occasions and Cumberland lost the time of possession battle in seven of the team's 11 contests in 2015.
• After some major struggles with turnovers to end the 2015 campaign, Cumberland's offense has kept miscues to a minimum so far this season, committing only seven through seven games. • Redshirt freshman Lorel Morton has taken advantage of his opportunities this season, ranking second on the club in receptions through seven games.
• Cumberland has compiled a 39-26 mark over the previous six seasons, the best six-year run in program history.

• Cumberland is tied for fifth in total victories among the 18 football-playing schools in the state of Tennessee since the start of the 2010 season. Carson-Newman (49-25) and Chattanooga (49-29) are tied for the most wins during that stretch with Tennessee (44-38) third. UT Martin (43-33) ranks fourth and CU (42-30) is tied with Maryville College (42-25) for fifth.
