PANAMA CITY, Fla. — A disappointing first round at the NCCAA National Championship has Campbellsville men's golf sitting in ninth place with a team score of 327.
The Tigers struggled in their first round by only finishing with four birdies. Senior
James Higgins led the way by firing a team-low 78.
Starting on the back-nine at The Hombre, Higgins carded one birdie, five bogeys and a double to finish with a six-over 78, which is good to tie for 20
th.
Freshman
Justin Warman carded a pair of birdies but fell victim to two triple bogeys in his round to finish tied for 32
nd with an eight-over 80.
Senior
Robert Johnson was just behind him with a 12-over 84 to be tied for 45
th, while
Justin Riffle is tied for 48
th at 13-over and
Tristan Blevins is tied for 51
st at 14-over.
Cedarville's Jordan Reese sits atop the leaderboard after an even-par 72. Tate Fleming from Dallas Baptist finished with a one-over 73 and is in solo second.
NCAA DII program Dallas Baptist leads the tournament with an opening round 306. After the leaders, five teams are within four strokes of each other. Cedarville is second (307), Oklahoma Baptist is third (309), while Colorado Christian and Southern Wesleyan are tied for fourth (310). Lastly, Grace College is five shots off the lead in sixth place (311).
The Tigers will tee off tomorrow morning on the front nine for the second round of the NCCAA National Championship. A cut will be made after the second round is completed.
