PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — After firing the second lowest round in the tournament in Round 2, Campbellsville men's golf fell back in the third round to finish in eighth place at the NCCAA National Championship.
Played at The Hombre, the Tigers had a pair of scores in the 70s today, but were unable to muster enough red numbers to jump Oklahoma Baptist, which was in front of CU by five strokes.
Campbellsville shot team scores of 327-303-323, while Oklahoma Baptist shot 309-315-324.
Colorado Christian University won the national championship by two strokes over Dallas Baptist. CCU fired 310-300-304 to outlast DBU's 306-307-303.
Tate Fleming went wire-to-wire for individual medalist and national champion honors. Fleming, from Dallas Baptist, won by four strokes (73-73-74) over Colorado Christian's Chase Carlson (80-74-70).
For Campbellsville, senior
James Higgins led the Tigers in the third round with a four-over 76. Starting on the front-nine, Higgins doubled the third hole but birdied No. 4 before going out at one-over 37. On the back-nine, Higgins was steady with just one bogey and a double for his 76, to finish tied for 20
th place.
Justin Warman led CU in the tournament by finishing in solo 19
th. Warman, playing in his first championship, shot 80-75-79. After a triple bogey on No. 10 and sitting at six-over par, Warman rallied to keep his round in the 70s with three-straight birdies on holes No. 16-18 to close out his fall season.
Robert Johnson fell off the pace today with a 10-over 82 to finish in 32
nd.
Tristan Blevins and
Justin Riffle rounded out the Tigers by finishing tied for 39
th and tied for 42
nd, respectively.
The national championship concludes the fall season for the Tigers. Campbellsville is scheduled to play in the Georgetown College Invitational on Feb. 20-21 in St. Augustine, Fla. at The Slammer and the Squire.
