CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Georgetown College scored a pair of goals in the second half and upset No. 22 Campbellsville on Wednesday night, 2-1.
The Georgetown Tigers out-shot CU 14-11 and capitalized on a pair of chances in the final 13 minutes of play.
Zoe Stovik broke the scoreless tie in the 78
th minute with a header off a corner kick by Bethany Massey. Then just eight minutes later, Georgetown played add on with its second goal. Jodi DeJohn found the foot of teammate Elise McKinney inside the box and McKinney finished lower-90 to give GC a little breathing room – which it would need.
The 22
nd-ranked Lady Tigers wouldn't go down easy, though. After a foul by Bethany Massey, defender
Taylor Pence scored her second-career goal on the free kick from 35 yards out in the 85
th minute.
The Lady Tigers had two prime opportunities to knot the match at two in the final four minutes but
Erica McWilliams had a shot sail high and
Jordan Stallings was unable to capitalize with a header off a McWilliams corner.
Georgetown's Brittney Moshos had a solid night in goal as she was busy most of the match. CU started out hot with two chances in the first five minutes but Moshos was there for a pair of key saves. The rest of the night she came up with three more stops to finish with five saves.
CU's
Amanda Howard wasn't tested until late in the match and finished with six saves.
Campbellsville's record falls to 8-4 overall and 0-2 inside the Mid-South Conference. The Lady Tigers will now look to regroup after losing two-straight games for the first time since Nov. 13 and 19, 2014. CU will travel to conference foe Cumberland University on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
Georgetown improves to 10-2-1 overall and 4-0 inside the MSC. The Tigers have 14 days off before traveling to Lindsey Wilson College on Oct. 19.
