CU rolls on Senior Day with shutout over Cincinnati Christian

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Fighting Tiger football was able to send its seniors out in style on Saturday afternoon at Finley Stadium, as Campbellsville recorded its eighth shutout in program history rolling past Cincinnati Christian, 49-0.

With Demetrius Forney and Donnie Johnson being inducted into the CU Athletics Hall of Fame today, it was fitting that multiple Fighting Tigers broke program records.

Senior Tyus Alcorn surpassed 1,000 receiving yards – the fourth Fighting Tiger to ever do so – and eclipsed Trevon Chatman's record of 1,083 yards in a single-season. Alcorn finished his senior campaign with 1,095 yards. It's been three consecutive years that a CU receiver has eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark – Trevon Chatman (2014), Jarrod Harrington (2015) and Alcorn (2016).

Alcorn also finished his career with 36 touchdown receptions to set the new record. He finished today with 126 yards and one touchdown – a one-handed 67-yard grab to end the second quarter.

With the Tigers in victory formation at the end, Alcorn was able to go out to a standing ovation and kissing the Tiger paw on the 50-yard line.

In addition, quarterback Hunter Brown, who went through senior day festivities before the game, threw for 301 yards and four touchdowns. He broke Jacob Russell's single-season mark (3,676) and now has 3,776.

Brown also broke the record for passing yards per game with 386.1 — breaking Russell's mark of 334.2 last season.

Senior Wade Holtsclaw scored the games first touchdown on an 11-yard rush and freshman Kendon Young put CU up 14-0 just 55 seconds last with a 27-yard TD reception in the first quarter.

Brayden Russell added on with his first-career touchdown – a 40-yard reception with 15 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Senior Conor Dunn got in the end zone the final time wearing the maroon and grey, as he and fellow senior Eli Mitchell connected for a 1-yard TD in the second quarter.

After Alcorn hauled in the one-handed grab at the end of the second quarter, Chantz Goodman opened the second half with a 53-yard reception from Brown putting CU ahead 42-0.

Another senior, Sean Mardis, was able to get significant playing time and finished scoring the season's final touchdown – a four-yarder with 10:43 left in the fourth quarter.

Campbellsville finished with 582 yards and capitalized on two of the four Cincinnati Christian turnovers, scoring a pair of touchdowns.

Defensively, Tyler Carpenter led the way for CU with nine tackles. He set the tone of how the day would go with a one-handed interception in the end zone on CCU's opening drive.

Campbellsville finishes the season at 2-8 overall and will open the 2017 season at Finley Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 24 when University of Pikeville comes to Tiger Town.
