Tiger Hoops set to tip in Mid-South/Southern States Challenge

PULASKI, Tenn. — The first Mid-South Conference and Southern States Athletic Conference Challenge tips off this week, as No. 11 Campbellsville men's basketball will play three games Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 17-19.

The MSC and SSAC are partnering together for an annual challenge that is being hosted at Martin Methodist College's Robert E. Curry Christian Life Center this season. Georgetown College is scheduled to host the event next year.

The Tigers join No. 2 Georgetown and No. 19 University of Pikeville as the three teams representing the Mid-South, while Martin Methodist, Bethel University and Faulkner University are playing for the Southern States.

Campbellsville tips off the Challenge on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. ET, as the Tigers play Bethel. The Tigers enter with a 4-1 record, while the Wildcats started the season with a 4-0 undefeated record. All games for the Tigers can be heard on the Campbellsville University Sports Network, 88.7 The Tiger (wlcufm.com).

Campbellsville and Bethel are meeting for the third time in history, as the two programs haven't played each other since the 1966 season. CU owns a 2-0 record over the Wildcats after defeating Bethel 59-49 at Somerset High School on Nov. 17, 1966 and 93-85 in Powell Athletic Center later that season. George Sadler led the Tigers in both wins and finished his career with a 28-29 record as head coach.

On Friday, Nov. 18, the Tigers will play Faulkner at 3 ET. The Eagles enter the Challenge with a 4-0 record and the series between the two programs is tied at 1-1. The first meeting came on Nov. 23, 2007, as the Tigers won 68-57. NAIA All-American and 2016 Olympian Nestor Colmenares scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the CU win. Faulkner won the last meeting on Nov. 15, 2008, 59-57.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, Campbellsville completes the Challenge with host Martin Methodist at 5 ET. Both programs will meet for the fourth time in program history with the RedHawks owning a 2-1 record over CU. The only Tiger that was around during the last matchup on Dec. 7, 2012 was now-assistant coach Darius Clement who scored two points as a sophomore guard for CU.
