Lady Tigers rout No. 21 Talladega in home opener, 100-57

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — In its home opener of the 2016-17 season, Campbellsville women's basketball didn't disappoint the Lady Tiger faithful tonight, rolling past No. 21 Talladega in style, 100-57.

The fourth-ranked Lady Tigers proved their ranking tonight and put the gas pedal to the floor from the get-go. Campbellsville fired a season-high 71 percent (12-of-17) from the 3-point line and finished hitting 52 percent (34-of-65) from the floor, while forcing 20 Talladega turnovers and scoring 28 points off those mistakes.

Senior Emily Fox led CU with 25 points and hit 5-of-7 from deep. Junior Madison Clements registered 23 points – 20 of those coming in the first half – and hit 4-of-6 from 3-point land. Jordan Doram finished in double figures by matching her career-high with 15 points. She led CU with nine boards, while the Lady Tigers out-rebounded Talladega in a big way, 53-32.

Out of the 34 baskets for CU tonight, 32 of them were assisted, as Abby Miller and LeeAnn Grider both dished out a game-high seven dimes. Clements and Caitlin Hall both followed with four.

The night started bad for Talladega and never got better, as an administrative technical was called on the Tornados coaching staff for not having their starters turned in on time. Campbellsville ended up taking a 1-0 lead without any time running off the clock, but it was the shooting of Grider, Fox and Clements that ignited the Lady Tigers early.

Before Talladega knew what hit them, Grider hit the game's first triple and was followed with a pair of 3s by Clements and Fox to put CU ahead 10-0 in the first 1:30. The Lady Tigers never stopped in the first quarter by hitting six triples and taking a 36-11 lead.

Clements finished the first frame with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting and a perfect 3-of-3 from deep – the last one with time expiring in the quarter.

Campbellsville proved it was human and came back down to earth in the second quarter, though. The Lady Tigers scored 16 points but made only three two-point field goals, while hitting 10 free throws (10-of-14). Even though the slow quarter for CU, Talladega couldn't make a run as the Lady Tigers went into halftime ahead by 27 points, 52-25.

The Tornados stayed with Campbellsville in the third frame, as the Lady Tigers had the narrow edge 20-19 in the scoring column.

But CU's bench came alive in the final quarter. The Lady Tiger reserves pitched in 30 points tonight, led by Queralt Coll Pradas' eight points, Madison Faulkner's seven and Caitlin Hall's seven. Hall, a freshman from Stanford, Ky., wowed the crowd a few times in the final quarter with a few nifty no-look passes and drained a pair of triples to put the icing on the cake for CU.

Tajanee Wells led the Tornados with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting and Deshanna Cook pitched in with 14 points.

The tasks do not get any easier for Campbellsville this week, as the Jackson Rotary Champions Classic awaits the Lady Tigers at the historic Oman Arena in Jackson, Tenn. Fourteen of the top women's programs in the country are meeting in Jackson, as CU will play John Brown, which is receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll, on Friday, Nov. 25 at 3:30 p.m. ET. CU will turnaround and play No. 2 Westmont on Saturday at 3:30.

All games will be video streamed online via the Campbellsville University Sports Network and also on radio 88.7 The Tiger (wlcufm.com).
