KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Campbellsville got goals from three different Tigers today and pinned a 3-0 defeat on Grace College in the second match of pool play at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Men's Soccer Championship at Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex.
Jorge Martinez got things started in the 30th minute, as
Rickard Hallin played a long ball down the middle of the field to Martinez for the first score. In the 44
th minute,
Nathan Heath delivered a cross into the box and
Sam Wills added a second goal to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
After the break,
Ignacio Mangada gave the Tigers a little breathing room in the 58th minute.
Ross Lindsay played a through ball and Mangada finished from 10-yards out.
The hard fought win keeps CU's hopes alive for a wild card bid into the semifinals. There were a total of seven yellow cards given out – CU with four and GC with three. The at-large decision will come down to a score differential tiebreaking calculation that will not be known until the completion of two final matches today.
The No. 1-seed Tigers (16-2-3) collected 23 shots, led by Mangada's six. Out of those 23 shots, 15 of those were on goal.
Grace's season ends with a record of 10-9-3. The Lancers finished with 11 shots with four on goal – CU's
Gonzalo Sapena stopping all of them.
