#4 Lady Tigers survive OT with 91-83 win over Cumberland

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Fourth-ranked Lady Tiger basketball held No. 23 Cumberland to just two points and forced three turnovers in overtime, while scoring 10 themselves to outlast the Phoenix on Thursday night, 91-83.

The offensive prowess of Emily Fox, Madison Clements and Lauren Turner was too much for Cumberland, as the trio scored 62 combined points. Fox led the Lady Tigers with 24, while Clements finished with 23 and Lauren Turner had a career-high 15. Clements also hit all 10 of her free throws, while the the Lady Tigers hit 21-of-28 (75 percent) from the charity stripe.

With 14.9 seconds remaining, Taliah Moore made 1-of-2 free throws and Campbellsville was unfortunately assessed an administrative technical foul for calling a timeout it didn't have. Moore hit two more foul shots for an 81-79 lead, but Clements was fouled on the other end and hit both attempts, knotting the score with 7.6 seconds remaining.

On the next Cumberland possession, point guard Janisha Lindsay's shot rimmed out and the teams headed to OT – the first for Campbellsville this season.

Nicole Bowers, who led Cumberland with 22 points and 16 rebounds, made a layup with 4:14 remaining in the OT period but that was the final time the Phoenix would score. Cumberland went 0-of-6 from the floor with three turnovers in the final four-plus minutes.

Fox nailed a deep 3-pointer, one of five for her in the contest, to put Campbellsville ahead for good. The Tigers made 5-of-6 free throws in the final 3:20 and neither team scored in the last 2:03, ending a back-and-forth contest that featured 16 ties and 13 lead changes.

Abby Miller was a force on the boards with 12 rebounds, while LeeAnn Grider dished out eight assists.

Fox lit it up for Campbellsville from deep by hitting 5-of-6 3-pointers. As a team, CU hit 50 percent (6-of-12) from 3-point land and 47 percent from the floor.

Cumberland took an early 10-5 lead but Lady Tigers put together a 12-3 run to end the quarter and take the advantage.

Grider and Madison Faulkner scored field goals before another Julia Fox 3-pointer slowed CU down for the moment. Turner then sparked the Lady Tigers off the bench and made three consecutive layups, while Faulkner added another bucket for a 17-13 Campbellsville advantage after 10 minutes.

Campbellsville held Cumberland to just 1-of-8 field goals and forced five turnovers over the final six minutes of the period

A jumper from Clements and a deep 3-pointer by Fox stretched the Lady Tigers lead to 24-17 early in the second quarter, but Kerrice Watson answered with a triple for the Phoenix, which started a 19-9 stretch for Cumberland.

Bowers' field goal with 34 seconds left in the half put Cumberland ahead by one, but Fox got her own rebound and hit a layup just before the buzzer for a 37-36 Campbellsville edge at the break.

Fox and Turner each registered 10 points for Campbellsville and Clements tallied seven in the first half.

Starting the fourth quarter with a four point advantage for Cumberland, Fox brought the Powell Athletic Center crowd to its feet with back-to-back 3-pointers to even the game at 67. Trailing by two points with under a minute remaining in regulation, Fox used her outside threat to create offense for others. Miller found Fox on a backdoor cut but Fox used a touch-pass to Jordan Doram for the game-tying basket and forcing overtime.

Cumberland, who hasn't now won a game in the series for six-straight contests, blistered the nets by hitting almost 57 percent from the floor and 3-point land. A pair of Phoenix had double-doubles, as Taliah Moore led the Phoenix with 21 points and 11 assists, while Nicole Bowers had 22 and 16 rebounds.

Campbellsville returns to the Powell Athletic Center on Saturday, Dec. 3, as Lindsey Wilson comes to Tiger Town. Tipoff of the doubleheader with the Lady Tigers starts at 2 p.m. ET.
