Lady Tigers use the tre' to run past Martin Methodist

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — After hitting just two 3-pointers in the first game of the Mid-South Conference/ Southern States Athletic Conference Challenge on Saturday, Lady Tiger basketball flipped the switch tonight and hit 11 triples to down Martin Methodist College, 82-43.

Campbellsville started the night by hitting its first four 3-pointers and Emily Fox drained a total of six to lead all scorers with 20 points. The six triples and 20 points are both season-highs for Fox.

Abby Miller also registered a season-high with eight assists and scored eight points in the victory. Jordan Doram battled in the paint all night with eight points and eight rebounds. Kyoko Wade led the RedHawks with a double-double - 14 points and 14 boards.

The night started very quick for CU, as Fox sparked the Lady Tigers with one of her patented in-the-gym range triples from about 28-feet out.

After Martin Methodist tied the game at five, Madison Clements nailed the second triple of the game to give CU a 8-5 lead – an advantage that never faltered the rest of the way.

The Lady Tigers ended the first quarter on an 18-8 run and hit 5-of-6 triples in the opening frame to lead 23-15.

The second quarter was much like the first. Fox drilled consecutive 3s to give the Lady Tigers a double-figure 33-21 lead. Then Campbellsville took its defensive pressure up to another level and didn't allow the RedHawks to hit a field goal until the 6:51 mark. Martin Methodist only hit 4-of-14 (28 percent) from the floor in the second period, while the Lady Tigers finished hitting 8-of-17 (47 percent).

The Lady Tigers forced 22 turnovers and scored 22 points off those miscues.

Leading 41-23 at the break, Campbellsville came out on fire in the third quarter as well. The Lady Tigers finished hitting 7-of-13 from the floor, while Lexxus Graham drilled a pair of 3s. Graham finished with nine points off the bench – all from the behind the arc.

Madison Stewart got in on the action as well in the third frame with her first 3 of the year and finished the night with a season-high 11 points off the bench.

The RedHawks hit a season-low 18 percent (2-of-11) from the floor in that third quarter and went over 6:00 without a field goal, as CU out-scored them 21-8.

The final frame started exactly how the game did – an Emily Fox triple. She put the icing on the cake and gave way to a few Lady Tiger reserves who saw valuable playing time. Dylana Fothergill finished with four points, while Christin Hall had three, Queralt Coll Pradas has two and Lauren Turner had four off the bench.

The Lady Tigers bench out-scored Martin Methodist 39-5 and CU out-rebounded the RedHawks 45-28.

CU will close the MSC/SSAC Challenge tomorrow at 6 p.m. ET against No. 18 Bethel University. The Wildcats ended Shawnee State's perfect record with an 84-80 win in overtime on Sunday afternoon.
